sock yarn scraps

I have developed quite a collection of sock yarn scraps. I am toying with a few ideas to use them up: make the world's ugliest pair of mis matched, multi-yarn sock, knit a scarf or hat by knitting it together with a worsted weight. I think I may have asked it before but what is your favorite cure for too-many sock-yarn-scraps-itis?

  • I have this problem too....I just put the little balls into a basket until I know what to do, or use them for waste yarn.

I have also knit teddy bears with them, or other similar smallish projects as they come up.

  • I've considered doing that too. I've also knit baby socks and hats with scraps. Wendy of Wendyknits is doing a log cabin blanket with her leftovers. I came up with the idea last night to make a Baby Surprise Jacket since they look so great with many stripes.

  • Check out Shelly Kang's sock yarn scrap mitred blankie, it's really fun (can you tell I'm making one? although mine is mostly handspun).

It's a wild project in small units and, for me, is a kind of memory blankie; I can point to each square and who got the socks (for example, my DMIL who has since passed away). I don't know when it will be finished, but it will continue to grow with my sock collection!
