First it was a month. Now it has been almost 2 months since a post. What have I been doing?

I finished a few projects and started new ones.

First off the crochet blanket is done! so too is a Drops Asymmetrical Sweater, the Wisp, a Purl scarf for a gift and a couple berets. My Feburary Lady Sweater was sent to the frog pile and is no more.

on the needles now- Fiddlehead mittens, another Clapotis, a Top-Down Sweater and a pair of really forgotten socks!

Over a month...holy crap!!

I can't believe it has been over a month since I last posted. The test knitting has been keeping me busy. I am working on a second sweater which is due later this week. I also have the Feb. Lady sweater, socks and the crochet afghan going too. Hopefully, I can get backto blogging more once I have the sweater done.

Reality Check

This week, I bought some new hanger for my closet which meant going through some of my clothes. Along the way I found some of the first sweater I knit. These were tucked away in the back of shelves, worn maybe once or twice. A dark green Boobholder, a cottonease Something Red... Are these ready to be frogged and recycled in to something else.

How many times have you frogged an older sweater or do you just keep them for sentimental reasons?

So I admit I have been slacking a bit when it comes to blogging. It has even crossed my mind to let it go on a more permenent basis. We will see how everything goes.

In the meantime, I have nearly finished my test knitting project. The number of FOs I have right now is concerning me. Wisp, a pair of socks, the granny square afghan and the never-ending Chevron Scarf.

Wisp is just about there, only a few more rows but the others are a long way from getting done. I guess 2 vacations and a test project have taken up all my extra time. My plan is side project monogamy. Work on the test project and finish Wisp on the side. Then move on to the next FO and work on that until it is done.

Back and ready to pack again

Disneyland and Vegas were great! We were waiting to get on a ride when the earthquake hit and as soon as we felt it, it was gone. Pretty quick compared to the quake we had in Seattle a few years ago. Needless to say, the ride were shut down for a few hours but being the Disney veterans we are,we took the time to eat, shop and head back to the hotel to rest.

Vegas with a 13yo was much different than usual. We didn't walk nearly as much since there were no gambling breaks to make a walk seem shorter. We saw the medievl show at Excaibur one night and went to the wedding the next. After that we watched the Belliago fountains, the Sirens show and explained to my step-son what the flyers the guys were handing out on the street were advertising. They really don't cover much up with a star.

Now we are getting ready to head out next week to Central Oregon for a week at Black Butte Ranch with family and friends. This year marks our 25th summer there. Scary! Now we are up to 17 people in 1 house which means we get loft and air matteress for a bedroom. Single people get to sleep on the floor in the room with the pool table.

Knitting-wise, I have been monogamous for about 2 weeks working on a test project. So that will most likely take up my time on vacation too.

Stitch n' Pitch is tomorrow night! I have my b-day money to bring ready for some impulse purchasing.

Has it really been 2 weeks since my last post. I am still here but leaving for a few days in Disneyland and Vegas. It's been a few years since I have seen Mickey and though I go to Vegas a couple times a year, we have not taken our step-son. So Vegas with a 13 year-old will be interesting.

I have a knitting project with a deadline so figuring out what to knit on the plane is a no brainer.

Hubby and step-son are camping this week so I had time alone to what some trampy movies- Where the Truth Lies and The Othe Boleyn Girl, make pepper jelly that never set and knit! I also tried to go veggie for the week. Not long I know but it has been super easy. I have been eating off a fennel-tomato bake for a couple days and last night made some bruscetta. Tonight, pasta tossed with the remaining topping and some white beans. Nothing like going from the whole food veggie-ness of this week to Disneyland food and Vegas drinks next. Oh well, I proved to myself that it can be done and after vaca, I may start it up again.

I have been on a huge cooking kick lately. I made strawberry jam a couple weeks ago and last week made 2 batches of homemade ice cream. That continued last night when I whipped out a batch of lemon-ginger ice cream. YUM!!! Basically it is vanilla ice cream with lemon zest, grated ginger and chunks of crystallized ginger mixed in. We got the ice cream maker for a wedding gift and it has taken us 5 years to really use it. So easy to do and fun to come up with new flavors.

To top that off, I made sauteed red cabbage yesterday and cold cucumber soup on Wednesday for dinner. Getting our box of veggies delivered every other week is really making me try out some new things.

On the frogging front, I started Wisp in Kureyeon Sock Yarn 2 nights ago and frogged it this morning. It wasn't as wide as I would have liked. I am going to cast on more stitches, more loosley tonight.

No, not off the needles. I have a case of startitis. I have 2 project still going- a Granny square blanket and a chevron scarf. I really want to start something new but my goal is to get everything off the needles before I do that. I am about half way there on the scarf and I don't really count the granny squares. They are more like a change of pace and a break from knitting.

I noticed how much yarn I really do have and how long that would really take me to use. Terrifying, which led me to the startitis. What to do?

Aside from that, I got a Wii fit the other day. It is fun but I really wonder if it will help me lose some weight. Something is better than nothing. I have notice how stiff and non-flexible I am so it will help there.

Last night I knit alittle more than I should have but I finished Josephine! All I need to do is go buy a ribbon for the tie. Knitting an i-cord just doesn't sound fun.

What to finish next? I am thinking the socks so I can start new ones by vacation in a few weeks. Maybe by then my needles will be completely free and I can have a good case of startitis.

Slowly Coming Back

So I am in PT for my elbow but I have been given the OK to knit for a small amount of time at night. Not being able to knit for a week really made me re-evaluate my projects and gave me the inspiration to finish what I have started.

I have 1 side of Josephine sewn and ready to tackle the other side tonight. I am going to try and remain faithful to one project at a time and get each of them finished up. After this...most likely the socks. I may cheat alittle and crochet some squares but don't tell anyone.

So I bought a book on crochet a couple of days ago. More speccifically- Granny squares. I have had a secret dream to crochet a granny square blanket. I gave it a try last night and not only is it better on my elbow but it isn't really too hard. So guess what is in my car right now?

6 skeins of acrylic ready to become a blanket. I had planned to use scraps but decided on a more uniform color scheme. And acrylic?! Easy to wash and cheap for my first try. Another crafting hobby added to the list.

Tennis Elbow

Just as my mojo was getting into full swing, the Dr. tells me I have tennis elbow. It has been hurting off and on for about 3 weeks and I thought it was just a pulled muscle. I have to wear a brace now. Luckily it is my left elbow and I am right handed but kniiting is hard. Hubby thought this might be a good time to learn to crochet so tomorrow I am going to buy Happy Hooker and see how that goes. Necessity is the mother of invention so I fill figure out something.

Ok. I'll admit it. Last night I watched Swingtown. Swingers, 1970's, Drugs. It was all there but there are 2 things that really stood out to me.

1) Pudding Paks- I totally forgot about pudding in a can and even though they only showed that for 2 seconds, I talked to my hisband about them for the rest of the show. I had them in my lunches all the time. Funny how stuff like that just pops back into your memory.

it took me a few days to get readjusted to life after the VIP weekend. I slept for 11 hours on Sunday. I have been knitting and am nearly done with the Ballband bag. What a quick knit!

My sock mojo has found itself again and I have been knitting those alot this week.

Josephine is knit and waiting to be blocked. I can't decide whether or not to shell out the $80 for a board of it I should just make one.

This weekend I have a grade school reunion. I went to Catholic school and spent 1st -8th grade with basically the same 25 people. I have to say I am much more excited about seeing them again than anyone from high school. Teachers are going to be there too so it should be great!

First up, Purl Beret. I have so much sock yarn and a couple of single skeins so I foudn this pattern on Ravelry and knit up a hat. Not something I will wear right now but I love it.

I have also been working on the Josephine Top from IK. I have the front done and hope to finish the back this weekend. It's my first time using Knitpicks Shine Sport and I like it alot.

No huge plans this weekend but I am off to Vegas on Wednesday for our big VIP trip which includes a dinner with a guy named Bobby Santapietro who has dyed jet black hair and a pinky ring. I watched Casino last night to prep.

We have over 400 people come to the casino this past weekend to try-out for Survivor. Many interesting people and auditions. Hubby has had a work schedule change and will be on Swing Shift starting tomorrow which means I now have to cook dinner and play mom a little more. That also means nights to knit so I am ok with that. I am also leaving for Vegas next week and planning, shopping and packing for that.

I will get those pictures up. BTW- I have a slight case of startitis coming on. Any advice on keeping that at bay for now?

So yesterday I hit the sale at Renaissance Yarns and of course, went with not project or yarn in mind. I have yet to find out why I don't prior plan before going to the store. Anyway, I got something totally different than the rest of my stash- Cotton tape-like yarn. I thought it work well for a Clapotis. (is that #6?) I also picked up something alittle more familar- Trekking- and some cotton for some washcloths.

Tomorrow we are having a community garage sale. We plan to partake but right now only have 2 bags of clothes, a desk, a shelving unit and 1 DVD ready. Pretty sad. I see lots of rummaging through stuff tonight.

Productive weekend

This weekend, I watched more movies that I have in the past month.

The Grudge- I know I am WAY behind on this one but I just can't get past creepy and this movie was creepy. I can handle Jason, Freddie and Michael Myers but creepy kids walking strangly and watching you is way too much for me. Enough said.

Knocked Up- This was ok but didn't live up to the hype.

Walk Hard- Judd Apatow double feature, I guess. I liked this better, of course, because there was singing involved. Jenna Fischer rocks!

I also baked cookies, bread and made fudge yesterday and we started some overhaul in the backyard. All in all a pretty productive weekend.

Tomorrow we get our first delivery of organic veggies from local farms. I am so excited!!

I'm Still Here

I have been knitting alot on Josephine this week. I decided to knit the front first to figure out any adjustments I made need to make. I am about half way through the armhole shaping.

Sorry about the lack of real blog posts. I haven't had the time or inspiration to get them done on a regualr basis. I am going to try to take some pictures on the next sunny day and get the Ravelry page updated too.

Revived! (and a yarn buy too)

So I have gotten over the whole review thing and looked to knitting. My yarn came last Tuesday and I statted Josephine pronto. My gauge is perfect on this too! I have about 5 inches done on the front but realized this morning that watching Dancing with the Stars and knitting even a simple lace pattern don't mix. I now have a small mistake/design feature.

I also checked out a new-to-me LYS yesterday. Yorkshire Yarns in Lakewood. They were really nice and even gave me 15% off for finding them on Ravelry. I picked up some very cute striped sock yarn in brown, teal and red, some blocking pins and a new row counter that has a lock on it so no more extra clicks caused by dropping it.

Tonight I am looking forward to more Josephine and Idol! Hopefully that will mix a little better.

Downer Day

So today I had my annual review at work. Nevermind it is mid-April and the review should have happened in Jan. They told me they like to save the best for last. Overall, I did exactly how I thought I would. Great when it comes to organization, teamwork and professionalism but need to work on more big picture things like reports. This was the year I finally decided to ask for more of a raise than they offered. I did my research and had a list of what I have accomplished in my position. They offered 4%. I hate tooting my own horn so asking for more is really hard. I brought up my research, my accomplishments and my salary goal. After all that they raised it 1% to 5% total with a larger year end bonus. A raise is a raise so I am grateful but I am so pissed at myself for not being able to get more. I am still about $4,000 away from my goal, which is at the low end of the pay scale for my position. I should be celebrating a good review and a raise but can't help thinking about my lack of negotiating skills.

I was looking forward to my Knitpicks delivery to ease the tension. According to the tracker it should be here today but it didn't arrive. I guess a glass of wine and a little Dancing with the Stars might so the trick. Why did the cheerfullness/cheesiest of Steve Guttenburg have to be kicked off so soon?

The Waiting Game

I am patiently waiting for the Knitpicks order to get here so I can start my Josephine Top. In the meantime, I have knitting away on the Chevron Scarf and spending time with my latest hobby- Golf. I played a round on Wed and went again yesterday. Today I hit the driving range down the hill from us. I need to start getting more exercise in and while golf is not the most strenuous activity, it's alot more fun to me than running or going to the gym.

PS- Looks like I won't have to wait too much longer for the yarn. The package got to the local distribution center today!

Semi-Splurge

I have been really good about stash-busting. My last 3 projects were stash busters so I decided to rewards myself a bit. I don't have any summer yarns in the stash. (Well, ok, I have some cotton-ease but i have already made a sweater from it and still have enough for another.) I wanted to make something for warmer weather.

I decided on IK's Josephine Top from Summer 07. So last night I placed a Knitpicks order for some Shine Sport in Grass green. I can hardly wait!

Today has been a day of finishing. The second Argyle Sock is sewn and done. I also finished up the Waterfall Scarf. So quick and easy. I like the feeling of a good stashbuster!

Did I tell you the latest pair of socks was frogged? Well it was but I did finish knitting the second sock of the argyle socks. Only the detailing remains.

So as of last Friday, I had nothing on the needles. What is the perfect thing to start at the beginning of Spring? I don't know if our snowy weather last week got to me or what but I decided to start not 1 but 2 scarves. Both are stash-busting projects.

The Waterfall Scarf from One Skein Wonders and a Chevron Scarf in STR Farmhouse and Harlotty. They are not the most contrasting color choices but I don't know if I would really wear a scarf that was too out there.

I am kind of impressed that I am actually working on both equally. I think there is enough differences in the patterns to keep me intersted.

Planning a Vaca

We have been invited to a wedding in Vegas at the end of July. At first just hubby and I were planning to go for a few days but since we have not been on a vacation alone as a family since 2001, we have decided to bring step-son along too.

The plans have changed a bit. We will leave on a Monday for Disneyland and stay until Wed. when we will fly to Vegas for the wedding and stay until Friday. It is only really a day and a half or so at each place but all of us have been to Disneyland enough that it is ok to miss a few things and with the lack of thing for a 13 yo to do in Vegas, the time is perfect. Not to mention, I will be in Vegas for work at the end of May anyway.

So we have made hotel arrangements and will be able to fly free (thanks to hubby's airline job). Now what is the next step? Car Rental? Figuring out daily expenses? Hell no! Figuring our what to knit on the trip of course! Nevermind I have 2 pairs of ignored socks on the needles. I need to plan my knitting 4 months in advance!

I don't have too much to write about. I have worn Petal twice and love it! I am working on the Dorothy bag from Black Sheep Bags in a green/brown combo and I hope once it felts it doesn't turn into something camoflague. Both pairs of socks are still WIPs and maybe collecting dust.

Oh ya- I got into Scout's Swag Sock Club. Only for 1 month but given my lack of sock knitting lately I am ok with that.

Luckily, I had time this morning to buy another skien of yarn for Petal (thank you Ben Franklin for opening at 9am). I also bought a couple skiens of Patons for an entralac felted bag. I feel much better now!

WIP Roll Call

Three projects going now. I finished the adjustments to the Cardigan on Thursday but of course, forgot to take a pic.

#1- Petal- I can't really figure out why I am starting a wool sweater in Feb. but if I like it, I have that cotton-ease to use up.

#2- Argyle Socks- I think these are really cute but are a bit too thick. I am so used to knitting 2 socks at a time that I have a bit of SSS going on these.

#3- Sock I forget the name of- They are from Sensational Knitted Socks. This is the first STR I ever received. Thanks to LadyLungDoc!

It's in the bag

I finally got the yarn on Monday night! Did I run home and start the sweater I had been wanting to start for a week? Hell no. Why would I do that? That would be because after months of trying to get down to 1 or 2 projects on the needles, I again have 3 things going: the argyle socks, the new socks and the adjustment on the Thorn and Thistle Sweater. So until I get one of those done, the new yarn is in the bag waiting for its turn.

Maybe it just isn't meant to be

So last Thursday I went to a LYS to look at yarn options for Petal. I found a great Cascade 220 Quattro (#9433 to be exact) but they didn't have enough skeins. The salesperson told me they would get a shipment in on Friday or Sat. No problem but I really wanted to start the sweater. I called other LYS and none nearby stocked the yarn. So Sat AM I go to get the yarn and am told that the shipment was held back and it should be in on Monday. I had stated some socks to keep me busy so I thought I could wait. All I have been thinking about is that color. I looked for other options but nothing struck me like that. I am crossing my fingers that the yarn will be in when I get there after work today.

You may remember the Thorn and Thistle Cardigan I knit last year. It is yet another in a line of sweaters that are too short. I have worn it once. So this morning I picked up stitches along the bottom and and going to knit more length, either ribbing or stockinette with some eyelet accents. If that doesn't help, it may be heading to the frog pile.

Is there such a thing as yarn mojo?

I have been trying to knit from my stash. I just finished Rusted Root from Cotton Fleece stashed for over a year and a half. So when I saw the picture of Stefanie Japel's Petal, I went through my stash to pick the yarn. I found some Cotton-ease. This Cotton-ease was once Sitcom Chic and then frogged. I have knit Something Red with part of the stash and never wear it. It seems that no matter what I knit with it, I am disappointed. Is it the yarn/pattern combo or could it be that the yarn just has bad mojo? I have looked at other yarn options at the store- Moda Dea Silk 'n Wool and Cascade 220 Paint. Any suggestions? Do I just give up on Cotton-ease and get the mojo out of the house or do I give this yarn a 3rd chance?

A First

Yesterday, I attended my first caucus. We walked to the elementary school down the street and were shocked at the number of people who turned out. There were about 6 precints squeezed into the gym. Our group alone had 178 attending, up from 16 four years ago. I glad to see such a diverse group of people and was excited to be a part of it. For the first time, I am excited about the elections and watching the results for every caucus and primary as they come in.

Ends are pretty ok

Saturday was the first Argyle Sock class and I have to say that I am loving it. Intarsia has been something I have put off for 2 reasons- weaving in ends and weaving in ends. Well, this morning I finished the intarsia on the first sock and the ends really weren't so bad. They are woven in and now I am ready to join and knit in the round. There is still a week and a half until the next class so I think I will start on the second sock to prevent the SSS from happening.

Resisting Temptation

I am taking the Argyle Sock class on Saturday. There was some homework ( 1" of 1x1 rib) and I finished that Sunday night. While I wait until Saturday, I have 1 project going right now- Rusted Root. I had been resisting all temptation to start another project. I was looking for some diversity but at the same time knew that I had just spent months trying to get down to 2 WIPs.

What to do? Of course! I got out some Peaches n' Cream last night and knit up a washcloth. Perfect. Something new and something quick. I finished it this morning.

Weekend Project

Port Townsend and the Strange Brewfest were great! I tried some Spearamint-Vanilla, Coconut and Basil-infused beers but my favorite was the Habenaro beer. I had to have 2 samples. Hubby like them a little too much and we were in bed at the hotel by 8pm on Saturday.

The drive gave me plenty of time to knit and I started/finished a Fake Isle hat. Love the pattern but somehow the top of mine ended up with what hubby called "a resevoir tip".

Inspired by my brother's love of argyle socks, I signed up for a argyle sock knitting class yesterday at my LYS. I was hoping to use up some of my stash but it calls for a DK yarn and I have none of that so (twist my arm) I had to buy some. The class is on the 2nd and 16th. It has been about a year since I took a class so I am so excited about this one.

I had all intentions of posting some pics today but laziness got the best of me.

I did have a semi-productive weekend though. I worked on Rusted Root and the Stockinette Socks while watching La Vie en Rose. I have loved Edith Piaf ever since I was introduced to her in college French classes but didn't know much about her life. The movie was great and brought new aspects to her songs.

Already looking forward to next weekend. We are headed to Port Townsend for the Strange Brew Beerfest. 35 breweries with flavors like coconut, coffe and banana beer. Is it Friday yet?

This weekend I kicked my knitting's ass and I found out why I feel like I have been so non-productive lately. I did really have a football watching marathon until Saturday. Football marathon=Knitting marathon. So while we watched the Seahawks lose, I finished the Lava Flow socks. Then on Sunday, I FINALLY sewed the zipper into the EPS sweater, started another pair of socks and divided the sleeves from the body on Rusted Root. It feels wonderful!!!

Not too Rusty

Rust Root has begun. Actually I am about 4 inches into it and about 10 rows away from separating the sleeves from the body.

This week I have spent a couple of days in the editing room for our new TV commerical. It just so happens that the studio is not too far from a couple yarns shops and my favorite cupcake place. I visited one LYS the other day and got a few cupcakes to take home. Today, I might visit the other LYS if there is time. I don't really have any reason to buy yarn. I have 3 things going now and nothing in the queue until they are done but just to look at and touch all the yarn sounds good.

So I picked a sweater to start. I got about half way done with the back and held it up to me. This is going to be way to short! Off to plan #2, a better fitting and more flattering projects (hopefully)- Rusted Root. I can use my stashed Cotton Fleece and it has just enough lace to make it easy and interesting. I am off to cast on!

Yesterday was finally a day of relaxation for me. I mean the no makeup or blow drying of hair type of relaxing. I got a ton of stuff done.

The Mix and Mingle throw is now an FO!!!!!! That had become the longest WIP I have never had and towards the end I really got the motivation to get it finished.

I also started to block the EPS sweater. It only took about 4 months to do. I was ready to start in on the zipper and realized I had order one that was too long. The new and shorter zipper is on its way now.

I also made some homemade Split Pea soup and a great dinner.

I have been really good about knitting from my stash and with the Throw done I am ready to start something new. I spent a good 3 hours last night looking for the right pattern and came up with nothing truely inspriational. Maybe Tahoe from Knitty but I think I might get bored or the Lutea Lace-Shoulder Shell from Interweave.

Xmas Re-cap

This year our Christmas last four days- a family party on Saturday, xmas with the in-laws on Sunday, xmas with hubby and step-son on Monday and xmas day/b-day with my family on Tues. By last night we were wiped and ready to just sit at home and relax.

My felted bowls didn't go over as well as I had hoped. Ther person who first chose them in the gift exchange wasn't crafty and had no idea what they were. I traded for them when I got a chance and then traded them to hubby's grandma who knits herself. Next year I think a hat or scarf would go over much better.

I got some great gifts over the holidays/b-dayitting books, some yarn, Stitch N Bitch Calendar, a pink Nintendo DS with a game of French lessons and a series of aerobic/dance classes given by the 5th Avenue Theatre! Not to mention clothes, new sheets and comforter, wine and other great things. We are still going through everything.

I have short days at work this week which means knitting is in my future. Then this weekend we are off to another family visit and a hockey game!

Felt me

I finished knitting a small and a large bowl in one day and stuck it in the washer on Monday night. It was my fist try at felting the our new washer. I wasn't too impressed. It took 2 cycles to get it going and I could have used a third but they are drying now and will be ready for the gift exchange on Saturday. I found some cute votive holders at IKEA and will use some tealights from my candle stash- yes, I have that too.

What is up with me? The past 2 or 3 things I have started have been frogged. The latest victim- the Noro Striped Scarf. It was a gift for our annual gift exchange and I looked at it last night and realized how ugly it was. Would anyone really want it? Was it a waste of 2 balls of Noro? Yep! Frogged.

So that leaves me with no gift for Saturday and no money to get one. Next up (and hopefully not frogged)- some felted bowls. I figured I could knit and felt 2 by Saturday and fill them with some soaps or candy. I started this morning on a large bowl and have knit 3" inches already! I will keep you posted.

I found a great scarf pattern and I am using yarn from my stash. The Noro Striped Scarf is easy cute and fun. It calls for 2 skeins each of 2 different colorways but I only had one so I am alternating with some Cascade 220. Teals, browns and greys! Loving it and will take some pics soon.

I will be having a B-day soon and have been thinking about what I want to do in the next year. I think it will be a year of health. I want/will watch what I eat but still give myself treats here and there. I will floss my teeth more often. I will do what is best for my body and not what sounds good at that time. Not too much pressure but still a challenge.

This weekend I taught 2 co-workers how to knit. I was nervous at first since I have never really had to explain to anyone the ins and outs of knitting. After a Buttered Rum Martini and a glass of wine we were all good to go and they caught on fast! I suggested some washcloths as first projects but both of them wanted to start a scarf. So they are off to the store of get the supplies.

I have been a knitting fool on the Mix and Mingle Throw. Really- it has been almost a year since I start it. It is time to get the sucker done! All the scarf talk put that seed in my head and now I am think about a scarf for my brother's girlfriend who is coming to town for her first Christmas with us. Something quick and easy? Off to search Ravelry....

I know it has been a week since I posted and what a week. We host the Amazing Race auditions on Friday and holy crap! 800 people tried out. I worked 16 hours with a permi-grin checking people in and making sure everything went ok. Then on Monday we filmed the first of 2 commercials!

I have knit though too. I have been working on the usual WIPs, made 5 mini-sweaters for the tree and a drawstring pouch from LMKG.

Saturday I am teaching a friend and her daughter how to knit. I am excited and nervous. I am off to find a good instruction book for them...

Inspiration

Yesterday, I got our our Christmas decorations. Last year we were in a house where there was essentially one pretty small room to decorate. Now, we have a family room and a living room that could use some festivity. I put out what we had and it got lost in a larger rooms. We don't have our tree yet but our nativity set, stockings and little nick-nacks did add much Christmas to the place.

Today I stopped at Joann's and bought some lit garland and a 4 ft fake tree in a planter. Perfect! One room with the real tree and one with a smaller fake one. I got inspiration as soon as I picked it up! I am going to knit some of the mini-sweaters from Last Minute Knitted Gifts for ornaments. I finally found a use for the huge pile of leftover sock yarn I have!!!

Ok, so the weekend turned out nothing like I had hoped. Hubby pulled a muscle in his back on Friday and has been laid up and drugged up ever since. I got some of our Xmas decorations up but didn't really get any crafting related stuff done.

Weekend Plans

I hoped to start my weekend off early by visiting my brother, who is dressed up like a turkey today and standing outside the Dahlia Bakery. I guess they have a huge line there before Thanksgiving and he was chosen as the lucky employee to get dressed up and entertain the customers.

Off to my parent's tomorrow. We are still not sure if hubby has the day off but if he does we will hits his parent's too. Another year of 2 Thanksgiving dinners!

My main plan is to get the zipper sewn into my EPS sweater. It has been sitting next to my bed for about a month waiting for the zipper. I also have 2 pairs of pants to hem. If I get in the right mood, I may paint too. I bought some canvases last week but have to wait until the inspiration hits.

I have two balls of yarn that are going into timeout. I have started a scarf pattern 4 times with it and it just has not looked good. Too tight, too loose, too wide... Forget it. I have to have time away from that yarn for now. Off to start a Saturday Market Bag with a new yarn.

It is amazing how tired you can feel after getting back from Vegas. It was good. I walked the trade show and found some good ideas for marketing. I ate at Mario Batali's B&B Ristorante one night where the bartender kept giving me free wine. I paid $13 for what should have been 1/4 litre or 1.5 glasses. He refilled that once and then gave me 2 glasses of Moscato with dessert. I was feeling it after that but dinner was great and well worth the $50.

I also took one more step closer to true geekiness and saw Donny Osmond in concert. I loved the Donny and Marie show when I was a kid so way not. The ticket was only $25 from the half-price ticket place and I know I could have easier gambled that away in an hour and a half. I have to say I was amazed at how many middle-aged scantily dressed women stormed the stage when he came out. Really? What makes you think a 50 year old Mormon is going to take you back to his hotel room. I was waiting for the underwear to start flying.

One Day More

The past week has been a bitch but I have gotten through it and tomorrow I leave for Vegas. It is my first time to be there by myself (ok, the Pres and VP are going too but staying in a different hotel). I am thinking of things that I want to do there but hubby wouldn't. Go to the museums at the Venetian and Bellagio, Avoid the buffets and eat at a Mario Batali restaurant, etc..

I did get some knitting done and finished my Clapotis for a gift exchange. yeah! I forgot how much I love that pattern. I will take some pics but that may not be for a bit.

Packing my Bags

About a month ago, I asked my boss if I could go to the Global Gaming Conference in Vegas. 700 vendors full of casino related items/services. I never heard back so I thought it was a done deal. Well, this morning I was asked if I was still interested. Ah, ya! So next week at this time I will be in Vegas as part of a 4 day work trip. I am excited but also feeling overwhelmed. Everything I had planned to do next week has to get done before I go. Between now and the end of the month we are filming 3 TV commericals, hosting a casting call for a national reality show (think Phil) and buying over 100 gifts for the employee parties. Yikes- add in Thanksgiving, a Seahawks game and now Vegas and that is one hell of a full month! At least I can look forward to a good 2 hours each way of solid airplane knitting.

I am delivering about 500 prizes to 4 casinos today and may get stuck about 60 miles from home at rush hour ( or about 2 hours away). I needed a travelling project to bring with me just in case. Hopefully I get done with all the deliveries early and have time to knit away.

It is time to purge. I had 4 projects on the needles at the beginning of the weekend. Today I have 1. Not only did I let the Back to School U Neck vest go but I also decided to end my relationship with the Chevron Scarf and the socks that I never really started. So right now, the only project I have going is the Mix and Mingle throw. As much as I hate the term, I am closer to starting up again with a "clean slate" and take another look at my stash for inspiration.

BTW- Clean slate also brings new yarn buys. I hit the Knitpicks sale and while I was buying some yarn for my MIL, a couple skeins for myself landed in the cart for yet another clapotis and a scarf gift.

Cleaning and Frogging

After a visit to a relative's unorganized and sloppy house this weekend, I was motivated to organize a bit. Nothing Major just putting away a few things here and there but it is amazing what feeling claustrophobic is someone's house do to all thier crap lying around will do.

I also came to a realization- the U-Neck vest is something I am never going to wear. Bring in the frogs. Yep, a month of knitting is now back into balls and ready for something new. It all about the process, right?

I have to admit, I have been really good as far as yarn buying goes. It has been at least a month since I have even thought about buying yarn. That ended today. I have a big yarn buying urge. I am trying to work the stash down. It isn't terribly big but I have way more than I need.

I still manage to find patterns that make no use of the yarn I have. I would love a Everlasting Bagstopper. I don't have enough of a cotton or hemp yarn to make it. I do however have a 15% of coupon from my LYS.

Do I make a trip there on my way home or hit the gym like I had planned earlier this week?

Breakthrough! Last night, I knit 6 whole rows on the Mix and Mingle Throw. Sounds small but it is a good 2" and a great feeling. I have finally found my inspiration on this one. I figure I am about half way done but maybe more depending on how much yarn I have left. There is a light at the end of the tunnel on this WIP.

Interweave Preview

The Winter Interweave Preview is up. I always look forward to these for inspiration even though I have knit maybe 2 things from Interweave. There is something about these pictures that bug me. I can't seem to pinpoint it but they kind of look like 1970's catalog photos. There are some things I like though: Rosemary's Swing Jacket, Logan River Wrap and Refined Aran Jacket.

I am learning from experience on the U-Neck Vest- no more fitted and ribbed items. Back choice with big boobs and a newly found gut.

I really need to get on the ball. Ever since the move (May), I just haven't found a blogging schedule. I used to blog before work but now I have to get step-son to school at 6:45 so that is out of the question. I could do it at work but I don't have my stuff to photograph there. Like exercise and laundry, I guess I have the set time aside to keep up blog.

With that said, I am nearly done with the u-neck vest. Only the neck and armhole finishing to go! Next up- finishing my never-ending Throw.

While driving to work this morning, listening to Stash and Burn, I thought of how great it would be to have all of my current projects off the needles. What a great feeling that would be! I only have 3 WIPS but they are kicking my butt. To finish up these items means that I would have to actually knit. That hasn't happened much in the past few days. My trip to Shipwreck bead produced a necklace I wore on Friday. My hairstylist saw it and now wants me to sell some items in her salon. Needless to say, I have been beading for the past 3 days. I did work the rest of the 2x2 rib on the vest this morning. That did feel good. Just waiting/wanting to exhale.

I usually have 2-3, sometimes 4 projects going at the same time. Some take a little longer than others to finish but lately I been wanting to concentrate on only one project. The others seem to get forgotten and I have even thought of frogging them. Right now, I have been strictly on the Back to School Vest. Not with alot of passion but slowly getting it done. Everything else is collecting dust. I am hoping that after I finish it. I can work on the other projects with the same devotion and clear off my needles. Sometimes a fresh start is all it takes.

BTW, I bought a pom-pom maker this week and used up some odds and ends. Now what do I do with these?

I have had the crafty bug lately, unfortunatly not for knitting. Sure, I have been working on the Back to School Vest but I have also been wanting more. First it was painting. If I don't act on that urge right away, it doesn't work. I let it pass so that has to wait until the next urge strikes. Then is was sewing but I had to drop out of the class I was going to take. Now it is beading. The trip to Shipwreck started that one. I have the beads, the findings, the tools and last night I set out the beads for my first necklace. If all goes well, tonight I will string them and maybe get a few more rows in on the vest.

some mojo found

I ended up finally finding some mojo this weekend but it wasn't one the car trip. I frogged the Cobblestone socks Friday night and cast on for some moss stitch socks using the same yarn. Saturday I packed them for the car ride but ended up playing Auto Bingo instead. (yes, I am 33 and play Auto Bingo-by myself) The socks have still be left untouched. I did cast on for the Back to School u-Neck Vest from Fitted Knits Saturday night and I am loving it. Quick, easy and hopefully wearable. Not to mention I am even stash busting!

The Oyster Fest was good. I had my year's worth of oysters cooked every way imaginable- BBQ, Scalded, Rockafeller, Raw, Wrapped with bacon, etc... We also did a little wine tasting and stopped at a casino. There was a small side-trip made to Shipwreck Beads. Holy crap! Talk about overwhemling. I am seriously thinking about taking a beading class so I can take advantage of all the cool stuff they had.

Mojo Building Weekend

I lost my knitting mojo this week. I am hoping a car trip tomorrow will help me find it. We are headed to the local Oyster Fest. yes, a whole Saturday filled with oysters for every kind plus a little wine and beer tasting and a 2 hour car ride. That means knitting time!

I have 3 kind of boring projects going. The socks I am knitting are not holding my interst at all. Should I frog the 2" I have done and start on a new pattern? The scarf is a quicker knit but still not a challenge. The throw is just too much. Too many ends to weave in. Too many stitches in the row. Too many days since I started it. I would like to start the u-neck vest from Fitted Knits. Right now, anything to get the mojo moving is good.

Steeks and socks

My mindset was ready on Sunday morning to do some steeking. When that happens I have to jump at the bit so after about an hour of sewing and double checking everything, I was ready. Honestly, I don't know why I was so nervous. It was fun and actually pretty easy. Now I just have to block and buy/insert a zipper.

I also started some new socks- Menehune Cobblestone. I pulled what I think is the oldest yarn from my stash, Knitpicks Sock Landscap in Fall Foliage. It is nothing like the other colorways a choose but it is really getting me in the fall mood.

Le Slouch is finished! I forgot how nice it is to do a quick knit. My second try at this hat went much smoother than the last. Wearing it, however, can take on 3 different looks.

With the socks done, I had to cast one something new last night. I guess the plan for the throw-only knitting is out the window.

Looking at me FO list for the year, I have only knit 2 hats so it seemed time to knit another. I ma giving Le Slouch a second try. I got gauge with Lamb's Pride Worsted on size 10 needles and have knit about 3 inches so far. This should be a quick knit.

Since I have a ton of sock yarn, I figured I have to have some socks going too. I am leaning towards Charade but that may change 5 more times between now and the time I cast on.

With the EPS off the needles ( and stuck in the land of steeks to be) and only a few rounds left on my Cross-Stitch Block sock, there is only one project left on the needles. One long andon-going project- the Mix and Mingle Throw. I am torn between concentrating only on the throw and finishing that MoFo or starting one more project to keep my interest going between rows on the throw. My potential projects? Another pair of socks, Clapotis #4 or the Pimlico Shrug from Knit2Together. What to do?

Speed Demon with Pants that Don't Fit

I had a double whamy hit me in the past 12 hours.

First, I come home from Purly Girls to see a speeding ticket waiting for me in the mail. Yes, last week when step-son missed the bus, I apparently drove 28 MPH in a 20 MPH School zone and the big brother police-cam got a picture of my license plate. $200 and my first ticket! I am totally contesting this. First of all, my first ticket and only 8 MPH over. Most inportantly, school had already started and as evidence in the video you can watch online (more big brother), there were no children present. Should I pick out the low cut top and practice my tears now?

Second, with the weather cooling down a bit, I looked into my closet this morning to find some longer pants. I found about 3 pairs but too bad none of them fit my fat ass. I have about 3 pairs that fit me now but they are all summer-y. What a difference a year makes. I immediately called the gym to sign-up with a personal trainer for 5 sessions.

Calgon take me away!!

The Fair, the Sweater and the WIPs

This weekend was full and relaxing at the same time. Saturday was spent at the Puyallup fair. Not really my type of thing but I did come away with some hand-dyed sock yarn- as if I didn't have enough! We spent a good 6 hours there and were ready to be away from people by the end of the day. We did see the Seahawks dance squad perform and from that I learned that no matter how many mistakes you make, smiling and tossing hair hair around will make up for it. I think I will try that today at work.

The knitting display at the fair featured a Clapotis and Lizard Ridges. Someone there checks our Knitty.

Sunday was more of a domestic day- knitting, baking a pecan pie, making some soup, knitting, watching football, knitting. I finished the EPS sweater and just have the steeks left to do. I hear procrastination beating down the door. I am really nervous about this, not so much the cutting but making sure the sewing is done correctly first. After finishing the sweater, I started working on both the Mix and Mingle throw and the socks that have been on my needles for about a month. I would love to finish my WIPs before starting something new. A girl can dream right?

So here it is the first half of the first band of fair isle on the EPS sweater. I can't help but see some Scooby Doo-ish ghouly eyes staring at me. i am really hoping that in the grand scheme of things this will get lost with all the other patterns. I did change up the color order a bit since the last post and aside from the eyes, I think it works better. I cannot stop knitting this. Everything else is on hold. Loving the fair isle knitting.

Off to the fair today. Maybe I will come back with some yarn or at least a tummy full of junk food.

Here is a color chart I made for my EPS sweater. I am ready to start the fair isle and hope these colors work well. I am going to the M's game tonight so it will have to wait until tomorrow. The brown is the main color of the sweater with light blue, teal, green and white.

Ok, I'll admit it. I really need to post more. Problem is that there really isn't much to post about. I am still working on the EPS sweater. In fact, yesterday I attached the sleeves to the body and pretty soon, after 5 inches stockinette, I can start the Fair Isle Yoke. I am going to Purly Girls tonight with about 10 different colors to get some advice on the color scheme.

My socks have been left without a stitch added for over a week. Are the officially hibernating?

This morning I bought my tickets to Jersey Boys when it comes to town in Dec. I am so excited to see that but first up is Spamalot next month!

I signed up for a sewing class in October w ith Meg and Mara. I took one when I was in thrid grade with some interesting results- a shirt that didn't fit and a checkerboard pillow with non-uniform squares. I am hoping age and experience are on my side this time.

It is amazing what a weekend with nothing on the schedule will produce. I finished the body of my EPS (Percentage) sweater and have a sleeve and a quarter done too. Now the blob has a companion.

Other that that not much to report though. Today is the last morning before school starts so I am enjoying the time to myself. Tomorrow the schedule starts- complete with a new school. For now, the sound of the rain outside is taking my mind off of all that. I love that sound!

Ready for the next 3 days

This 3-day weekend could not come at a better time. We have no plans but with a new assistant starting this week, I am ready for a break. Honestly, I have trained 4 assistants in the past 2 years. It is old hat but so time consuming. There is already a pool going to see how long she lasts. She already called in sick on her 3rd day. Am I really that bad of a boss?

No real progress pictures to show. The Percentage sweater still looks like a blob but I should be starting the sleeves this weekend. My heel flap are just about done-after a week! Those had definetly been put aside for a bit.

I saw Rebecca's post about dedicating 48 hours to a project before changing to another. May be I should give that a try. I only have 4 on the needles but I am sure progress would be made the on the neverending Mix and Mingle blanket!

Today I am playing golf with the other managers from work. Wish me luck, this is only my 4th time ever playing.

Not too much on the knitting front- Still knitting around the body on the percentage sweater but I am almost done with the waist shaping! More updates soon...
